Desktop Kappa  Analyzer

The Bench Top Kappa has been designed to overcome all of the issues associated with manual Kappa testing, providing fast, reliable and accurate results with minimal operator involvement. The DURALYZER-NIR/VIS bench top spectrometer based analyzer provides the results of the standard lab test, providing highly accurate results for Kappa measurements for pulp samples..

The DURALYZER-NIR/VIS bench top spectrometer  based analyzer uses the same NIR technology that is used in our online analyzers. This instrument has been designed specifically for the somewhat harsh lab environments of the pulping areas providing many years of trouble free operation. The only required maintenance for the instrument is an annual replacement of the light source and occasional chemical additions of the chemical bottles.

Manual Kappa  testing has to be performed routinely for quality control purposes. More often than not, lab testing is the only measurement procedure available for process control decisions. The tedious and cumbersome nature of the standard Kappa test for pulp  does not lend itself well to rapid manual testing.

However, the nature of this testing procedure does lend itself well to induced errors if it is not performed with care and attention. As a result, Kappa testing frequency is low and potentially biased and is usually performed at most once or twice per shift. The result of this practice is that much of the process variation is missed as well as the opportunity to reduce process variations.

The DURALYZER-NIR/VIS bench top analyzer completely eliminates all of the negative issues associated with manual testing, accurate volume measurement requirements and the effects of human errors.  .

Duralyzer-NIR/VIS Technology:

The NIR/VIS spectrometer technology allows very fast and easy sample preparation for Kappa quality laboratory tests. The pulp sample is washed, hand squeezed and then measured on a scale to approximately 2 grams. It is then dispersed in a blender with one litter of water. The resulting pulp slurry is then poured into the analyzer funnel and the analyzes is started with a simple acknowledgement of "Analyze Sample" button.
The sample consistency is measured by the analyzer and the chemicals are added automatically. After each test, the analyzer is flushed out to be ready for the next sample. The change in spectrums are calculated and compared to an internal library of Kappa models. The test results are then reported on a LCD display, printed and send to the mill database. The analysis is fast and takes only about 14 minutes. The test itself is operator independent and gives accurate, reliable and repeatable analysis every time.
